The piece
A centre stone circled by a halo, with the stones continuing down the shoulders of the band.
The halo does two things: it makes the centre stone read larger than it is, and it protects the girdle from the knocks a ring takes more than any other piece. Prong and castle setting keeps the metal fine between the stones, so what you see from above is almost entirely stone. Set stones on the shoulders carry the line into the band rather than stopping it at the head.
Reads as an occasion ring, but it is light enough to be an everyday one.
